Cozumel Pearl Farm

Cozumel Pearl Farm is one of the newest tourist attractions in Cozumel Mexico. The Cozumel pearl farm is located on the north end of Cozumel island by boat ride only which has a small museum and laboratory were pearl implantation takes place. The pearl farm opened in 2004 just before hurricane Wilma so it had a tough start to get over all the damage from the hurricane. The oysters are brought from the sea to the laboratory were they are opened and small round membrane is placed under laboratory conditions inside the oyster and the oysters are then brought back to the sea. You can snorkel out to see the cages were the oysters are protected in traps and guarded by a statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe stands guard over the cages. It takes years to make a pearl and most are not round and only a few make it thru the whole process. There is new artificial reef nearby that is new since hurricane Wilma and the snorkeling is very good with lots of sea life. Lunch is on the beach with a menu of pineapple burgers with beer and sodas.
How to get there.
The full day tour is $110 usd per person and includes boat ride, lunch and a great look at the other side of the island not seen by car.
