The Ironman Cozumel race is spectacular course. The first component of the race is the swimming leg, which takes the athletes through a single loop within Chankanaab State Park. A piece of the Cozumel National Beach, this portion of the Caribbean Sea is home to world renowned coral reefs and exotic fish and marine life that attracts divers and snorkelers from around the world. Following the swim, the athletes complete a 180 kilometre bike course around the primarily flat Cozumel terrain. Throughout the three laps, athletes will soar past the remarkable coastline, passing white sand beaches, dazzling resorts, and the charming town of San Miguel de Cozumel.
As the bikers zip through the course, it will be lined with travellers, families, and locals, all cheering them on in support. This festival vibe is a common occurrence during the Cozumel Ironman, and visitors and locals alike camp out on the side of the road with lawn chairs, umbrellas and coolers to watch the racers fly by.
The race finishes at the San Miguel de Cozumel city hall square. The atmosphere is filled with anticipation and excitement as the racers enter the square, successfully having completed the competition. Here, locals, families, and race fans gather to celebrate the athletes and their accomplishments.
